Hello Pam, I learned early on the Token collectors here in TX (and probably other states) are 'ravenous' in their collecting. While metal detecting many moons ago I dug a handful of Carolina TX 5¢ Octagonal 'Good For' tokens. These were from an East TX logging company town that became a ghost town in the early 1920's. No one had ever seen these tokens, so I happily sold them for $20 each and was able to trade one for a roll of mercury dimes in VF-XF condition. I hunted the location until an apartment bldg. was built atop the property and did end up finding one Carolina TX 50¢ Good For. Ended up selling it for $200....What fun! J.T.
That is awesome. I wanted so badly to go to an area where an old grocery store and huge parking area destroyed. I would have loved to go in there. Fenced in! Congrats on your finds.
I'm interested in the history of your tokens. Any idea when they were made, especially the Alabama bus tokens? Is there a link to where I could find this out? I have a mostly similar one from Montgomery (only the bus is not just an outline).
Very nice, Pam, and thank you for sharing. I’ve got a pile of tokens somewhere in my hoard. I’m going to have to root around to see if I can find them. Maybe this weekend.
I don't have the token, but I do have one of the dies. I guess I will never know who issued the token. Might have been used by a number of vendors.
