There is one person on these forums who would probably disagree with you. I just hope that most people don't believe him. Chris
I was gonna say that, but, a finned rim, imo would still have the shape of the rim flat and spread across the circumference. A burr would be sticking high off the rim in only a certain area. Therefore able to be folded and either struck or flattened in circulation, looking like a Cud.
paddyman98 See you showed a nice certified die crack. Now please show me a nice certified finn. Here's one link https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&ved=0ahUKEwiFvfL1ls7XAhUKPCYKHeJKBEEQFghjMAg&url=http://www.apmex.com/product/82214/2013-1-2-oz-gold-eagle-finned-rim-mint-error-ms-69-pcgs&usg=AOvVaw3DJamh1idO-3sE7KLw4g08 Most of the fins Do not come anywhere close, but that's only a personal observation. But since the op mention cud in someone's thrown out finned fold-over. Here's one way you can find a photo of what someone is calling a cud fin fold-over. https://www.google.com/search?q=Images of a finned coin&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiI3--wxsvXAhUB1SYKHd2ZAVgQsAQIJQ Personally I'm not asking anyone to believe me. Unlike some just like this quote. I'm giving individuals who Read this quote the opportunity to check out the links and make up their own mind. Not have someone make up their mind for them. They can decide For their self after looking at options what they want to believe not what someone else believes. "paddyman98, You've gone over to the dark side.
@usmc60 I created this thread 4,075 posts ago - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/finned-rim-explained-6000th-post.290930/
paddyman98 Excellent collection. But I've also noticed none resembles the ops. Definitely gonna keep that link on file for reference. USMC60 Bet you can't do that with rim burrs. LOL
Could someone explain to me what a rim burr is? I apparently have a lot of those folded over rim burrs but don’t really know what that means and wondered if they had any kind of premium
All I'll say is rim burrs do not add any premium to a coin whatsoever. Hopefully another member will be able to help you further, and provide some good examples. https://www.cointalk.com/posts/2911909/ You may want to check this link out
dchjr This is only my opinion, if you take a look at your second blowup photo. If you take a close look you can see where the die has been broken and gone into the face of the coin. Send it into Mr. Neff make sure you illustrate the second photo. At least it confirms to me that that is a cud. Mr. NEFF opinions is more credible than mine. USMC60 PS.I have mentioned that fold-over rim burrs can hide cuds. As far as I'm concerned other members can call it a fin or whatever they wish. If the metal Is on the edge of a coin it is a burr. If you wish to put it into a fin classification that's okay with me.
This is my opinion in my opinion only. It is a rim burr by definition. Now classification since I really don't have coin in hand. For further examination. Classification unsure of, since it was definitely not struck into the rim of the coin, it seems to be excess Metal on that one particular side, that was forced up when pushed it to the collar. I have read there are many ways this could occur you pick one. The only thing I'll say is definitely a rim burr by definition. Classification unknown. Certain member.
