Minting error or damage?

I recently purchased a 1919 Ecuador 5 centavos coin on eBay. While the images in the listing were relatively high resolution and very detailed, I still misinterpreted some details as discoloration. I'm having difficulty figuring out of this is post-minting damage due to mishandling, or a minting error.

The coin didn't cost hundreds, but it wasn't exactly cheap either. So, if it is damage, I still have an opportunity to return it.

If the quality of my photo is insufficient to make a determination, I can try photographing it again.

The last two images are from the original listing.

These are copper nickel. It is really hard to tell. I think you have what is called a lamination. This is a mint defect not really an error in my opinion.

I've gotta go with Pickin and Grinin on this one. It appears to be a lamination error. It's a mint error in a way, and it's worth saving for sure.

If you see one like this, it's probably mint damage, which can increase a coin's value.

IMO seller's photos are deceptive. That lamination runs through the "5".
