I was on the mints web site and was looking at the gold proof coins. They seem to have low mintage numbers 16,000 for the quarter ounce and 15,000 for the half. Also, should be added in are the ones in the four coin sets. I am not sure how many that is. My point being is are these coins going to have a surge like the unc silver W's or not soo much because of their initial cost of the gold? Or are the gold proofs always such low mintage I have never bothered to look before.
I'm not sure what page you were looking at, but correct mintage numbers for all Proof American Eagle coins can be found - HERE. But only up thru 2005, final numbers for 2006 have not been released yet to the best of my knowledge.
And remember, to get the true mintage for a particular coin you have to add the individual coin mintage total to the total for the four coin set as well. For example te quarter oz gold proof shows 11,746. But they also struck 23,804 four coins sets. So there are 35,550 proof quarter oz gold coins out there.
