lol. Yes, I noticed those awful dies and posted them in coinpeople. I have one in my collection - don't ask why I was foolish enough to buy it but thankfully I didn't pay anything like what the sellers are asking for.
trade die I would kind of like to have that fake trade dollar die as a conversation piece, and to keep it out of peoples hands that might actually try and use it.:hammer:
Why would anyone want to make a fake coin (unless it had the word copy on it to show it was a duplicate) I mean what would be the purpose of buying the real thing it would totally demolish numismatics as we know it
Those dies are obviously fake, considering that they could have been made last year & stored so that they would deliberately rust. Those scammers from Communist China are so dumb that they think that we're gullible. Aidan.
Doug,I am not one of those gullible people. If I see that the seller is from China,I won't even think about doing business.China is a very corrupt country that leaves Nigeria for dead. Aidan.
Please, if you wish to leave such remarks - take it to politics or other areas. Personally this is the worst insult I have to hear from you. The above discussion is about counterfeit dies and now you take it too far by assuming the whole of China is doing such. Do you have any idea how much trade there is between China, Australia and New Zealand? One of the major reasons why Australia and New Zealand's economies are doing good is because China is willing to pay top dollars for metals and no, it's no longer Japan who is paying the top dollar for them. Agriculture too is another aspect. Take both elements out and both economies will crash automatically. There are plenty of Chinese immigrants who immigrate to both Australia and New Zealand. They live there, work there and pay taxes. In fact, both countries are currently facing acute high-skilled labour shortages. Are you saying these people are causing problems there??? Perhaps some area, but don't you ever dare to tell me that Kiwis never commit crime when they travel overseas. Now back to the topic: To be exact, people's demand itself is driving the levels of counterfeiting rocket high. Basic economics there really. Who would want to make counterfeits if there is no value to it. Perhaps for the face value of the coin, but it would be significantly less than what is out there in the market. As well as, people never really try to bother learning about the coins before purchasing the coins. Without education in life, it's the same as trying to get a proper job without any formal training. How much more different can it be? Most people will go: "Hey look at what I got!" and end up with a " " as they never really knew what they have bought. Instead of condemning entirely on such counterfeit coins, we ourselves do have to accept as a fact that counterfeits are here to stay as well as to keep on educating to keep ahead of the counterfeiters.
Actually that was fun to try back in college. You have to remember that some attempts at counterfieting a coin is done just for fun. Now one thing we did was to take aluminum foil, several layers, press a half dollar into it, pour lead into the mold we just made and presto, a one sided shinny lead coin. Now for other reasons, I used to know some people that worked in a factory where they made metal washers and they would give some special made ones to the local kids. Many years ago there were a lot of pay phones that would take these if made the right size and weight. Also, candy vending machines, gum ball machines, etc for a kid it was fun. Then there is always the people that put some of these in the middle of a roll of coins and actually take to a bank so if you get a blank coin in a roll, it may be one of theirs. As to making coins for numismatic purposes nowadays, that is due to the recent massive interest in coin collecting. It there is money to be made, there is always someone that will try in dishonestly.
