I have an unopened U.S. Mint envelope with no date and, I don't remember where I got it. It just says "U.S. Mint Uncirculated coin" Is there any way to tell what's inside without opening it? Silly question but, you never know who might have an answer. LOL
I'm pretty sure mint envelopes came unsealed from the mint. This implies nothing definite about what is inside the envelope, but whoever sealed it might have been trying to hide something (e.g. crappy coins) so he could sell it. I suspect @charley had something to do with it...he just sounds guilty of something.
Slit the flap enough to slide a borescope in. Steam the envelope open. FLIR Forward Looking Infrared Radar...could possibly get a great signature of the raised date.
Had an acquaintance in the Military. He tried that. Court-martialed, and when she testified, he got 3-5 years @ Leavenworth.
The envelope for my 1965 sets all have 1965 S.S. in the bottom left hand corner. Yours may not be the original envelope.
That's what I am thinking could be the case. Thanks everyone I will get those xray glasses in the mail soon. How many people are old enough to remember those for sale in comic book ads?
