Is this considered a minor rim cud or just a minor misaligned die? It starts at the first "S" in States and goes around the 3 words until the last "A" in America. It doesn't come out very far onto the field and seems fairly minor. I'm just looking to better understand what this is since it's different from the other 2011-W proof coins that I have. This is the obverse of the coin in the same area:
I have a 1983 P Dime with nearly the same thing as you, the rim on mine looks doubled. I wish i could upload pics! My USB microscope is in the mail and as soon as it gets here i'll be uploading. But I would love an answer for this coin on the type of error! Thanks!
Ha! Santa brought me a USB microscope for Christmas & that was exactly what I was using! Be warned, it takes a few days to get the hang of using those things! I'm still not a pro at it, but the pics are a million times better than my scanner was able to do.
Looks like maybe a bur, extra metal left on one side from when the planchets were punched that is then struck onto the rim.
Has this coin been slabbed? And if so was it by PCGS? Because what I am seeing looks a lot like the "rubber" gasket wrapping over the rim of the coin.
Yes, it's been slabbed by PCGS, but it's definitely not the rubber gasket. That is up above by a few centimeters. I'll try again tomorrow to take better pics if these aren't working. I don't know what this is exactly, but it's viewable without a loop and is different from the others I have. Maybe it's a bur like someone mentioned, maybe a cud...I'm not sure.
