What do you think the call is??? Look at sig in lower left and compare to notes posted here is the $5 Series 1928...same sigs no encroachment.....and a $100 different sigs no encroachment......the $5 and $100 are from my collection on banknotebank.com Thanks... RickieB
i think it might be a lot more common on the older notes. after looking at some just in my Chicago collection i have found quite a few that have very minor overlapping not as quite as dramatic as the star note you have.
i would call it a minor error yes, but as some have posted, for the series, pretty common. But, i still ike to find them! common or not, you dont see it all that often these days!
RickieB; You are doing your collection no certain favour by branching into Cleveland and Chicago notes, I was to believe that NY was your forte. But nice notes all the same:thumb:
Howdy Scottishmoney..... Not really branching out....the Cleveland Notes I have are basicly a set thats it...the Chicago note I bought for another collector and simply holding it until he lets me know he is ready for an exchange...he has a NY note I need... I am focused on the NY collection, believe me, the notes I am missing are getting truly hard to find! Regards, RickieB
My understanding that it was still normal for the serials to overlap the design. (Unbelievable how much overlapping occurred in even earlier designs of currency). Since one of the reasons for shrinking the seals and numbers was to prevent this overlap, I personally wouldn't consider it an error until after they shrank the overprint to prevent the overlap. Just one novice's opinion though.
