I asked a question last time, so now will ask one. I bought some Golden St. Gauden coin replicas. The tiny 10 MM ones. What are they made of and what are they actually worth? And where do they come from?
Yeah, they're gold plated. I bought one for the heck of it a couple days just to see what they're all about.
Sounds like it's similar to this one: $20 MINI ST GAUDENS DOUBLE EAGLE GOLD COIN BULLION/BAR on eBay.ca (item 280432278334 end time 08-Dec-09 18:42:13 EST) If so it's really hard to tell how much, if any, gold it's actually made of. The seller claims it's anywhere from 8-22 karat gold, the only way to really tell is to do a gold metal test.
These coins are electroplated in gold, how much? Who knows, the base metal is generally brass. Probably made in China. Made from scrap. These are listed as "Coin Replicas And Patterns" which creates the acronym C.R.A.P
I don't know how you folks can condemn them without even seeing them, especially since several years back there were several companies that were actually making these minatures out of 8Kt gold and a couple made even smaller ones out of 24KT. So the chances are actually pretty good that they ARE made of gold. Only way to really tell though would be a specific gravity test.
