I bought a number of proof ASEs, all 1987, a year ago and, other than counting them (in their little capsules inside the boxes w/COAs) didn't inspect them carefully. Yeh; not smart. Upon closer inspection a few have milk spots (mostly in the field to the right of Ms. Liberty although in one they are in the fields to the right and left). A couple have very small scratches (struck-through lint?) also in the right obverse field. Question: how much would either of these imperfections detract from their value when/if I might try to resell them? Thanks, in advance, Steve
Yes, the milk spots do detract from the appearance, but it is hard to generalize about how the spots may affect a resale. Chris
AFAIK, unless they are 69's, 70's, or a high grade for a better date, they sell as silver. Anyone disagree?
Proof 1987's tend to be commodities, without significant grade to price gradients. There is a base generic "proof" premium.
I've bought (and returned) PCGS MS69 graded ASE's with horrible milkspots but never saw TPG graded Proofs 69/70 with milk spots - Yes, I could imagine Proofs with milkspots in their OGP as they wouldn't be sent in to get graded.
