Hi everyone, Mammothtooth here with a question about Military Mint coins of Antony. Is it possible to find one that has good relief at a reasonable price.

I love the coins and the history behind them, but it looks like I will never be able to own one…Any thoughts ? I would like to see some that you folks have.

    thanks…

My theory is that they were minted so hastily to quickly pay his Legions and the quality of the silver and purity wasn't high enough as it should have been in the late republican era.

Pretty much every example I have seen has dull-looking silver, maybe with the exception of the types made for officers in the Legions.

    Here is mine,

I have approximately 40 examples in my collection. These are perhaps the sharpest examples, but by far not the rarest. I've been working on my second sub-collection of these coins for some time and the prices keep going higher.
For fine or better examples you will need to be prepared to pay the price. They are no longer cheap (except those where the legion number is not legible or off flan). @ArtDeco is correct. The coins were quickly struck with less silver than contemporary denarii. And because of the lower standards, were quickly spent in order to get rid of them in favor of other denarii. This made for circulation wear.

Legio IIII is one of the most rare.

While Legio PRI probably takes the prize (I do not have one and probably never will)

Sure since no one in my family shows any interest. But first I have to adopt you and you have to see me through my dotage.

Movies were a big part of how I was exposed to lots of different kinds of music and got me interested in history then eventually artifacts.
I can say I'm in my late 20s and I think it is not the internet itself that is ruining children but specific tools like Instagram and TikTok.

Someone should start a foundation that would buy coins from estates, or that you could leave your coins to that would insure they go to legitimate collectors, be they young or old...just sayin'
