Mexican fish scales! Canada's 5 cent coin was also silver until 1920 and it was called a fish scale.

I love my tiny little hoard of Canadian fish scales. Only have about 2k of them haha

Don't give me any ideas. I have a hoard of British fish scales, ie 3d or threepence. They are sterling and very close to the Canadians. I'd really like to have a hoard of Canadian large cents.

I wouldn't mind having a comparable horde of Mexican 5/10 Centavos (small size) like @paddyman98's coin - love me some Mexican silver.

That's about the size of a salmon, no? :)

You know, I haven't actually ever seen a live, whole salmon in person, so I suppose it would depend on how spread out the coins were? (I get the impression that they are much, much larger in real life than one would think.)

These coins are hot right now and coin stores don't seem to have caught on. I've sold some of mine in recent months for a nice profit.

(Agree - as a consistent watcher of nature shows ever since Marty Stouffer's Wild America, I've always had a deep appreciation for wild animals - and realize that they are often much more impressive face to face. My FIL is headed up to Alaska soon to fly fish. I will have to admit, I'm really jealous - I'd LOVE to visit Alaska. Don't really care so much about the fishing, though; I'd spend most of my time enjoying the views and panning for gold haha...)

@paddyman98 - with a mintage of 268,000 for both varieties (heavy and light serifs) what is the distribution of each variety? My Krause doesn't really give me any idea - especially with the book values being the same. Is one more desirable than the other?
