Here is a 1927 Centavo I found at a local show. At first, I thought this was the 1927/6 due to some similarities. But after I took a closer look, there are significant differences. There is a mark that parallels the top stroke of the 7, and what is especially interesting is how a second tail of the 7 is protruding below. Since I don't see signs of doubling on the other digits or devices, I wonder if just one digit was mispunched, then mostly removed and punched again? I'm really not sure here if this was a repunching or re-hubbing, but it sure is interesting! If that's hard to see, here's one more detail: For comparison, detail of the 1927/6
Kurt, look across the top of the 7. Reminds me of the 1847/7 US Large Cent. I think that the 7 has been repunched on this coin. But that would not account for the debis around the 7 that you have arrowed. Interesting.
Jim, Good eye! I saw that too across the top of the 7. I should look closely again, but my take was possibly MD. Sometimes just one lighting angle doesn't show everything.
