Hello everyone, Here's an error coin that my grandfather pulled out of circulation when he was working for the bank in Mexico. My dad tells me he had a bag of them and threw most of them away, thinking that no collector would want an "error" coin. This was one I found in his old stuff a few years ago. Anyways, I'm labelling coins in my collection and want to figure out the date for it. I can see it just has a 197-something and it is cut off by the error. Is there enough meat on the last number to figure what the date is?
If I had to guess, it's probably 1970, 1978, or 1979. However, I'd probably lean towards it being either a 1978 or 1979 based on the remaining curvature of the last digit. Regardless, the more I look at it, the more I become unsure about my answer. 1970: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3951.html 1978: https://en.ucoin.net/coin/mexico-50-centavos-1978/?cid=10779 1979: https://en.todocoleccion.net/old-coins-america/mexico-1979-50-centavos-krause-km-452~x144698258
This is a 50 centavo piece I found thought I'd post if anyone knew anything. Don't thinks It's from 1897 btw
Common coin with around 180 million struck. The first 9 has a small die chip or die deterioration that has closed the gap making it look like an 8
