Metric Size for First Spouse BRONZES?

In addition to collecting the Presidential Dollars, my daughter caught wind of the First Spouse gold coins but when she saw the prices, she opted for the US Mint's First Spouse Bronzes instead.

The Mint has the size of the Bronzes at 1-5/16 and I was going to get a blank Dansco page to store them. Does anyone have any real life experience with storing these? Is it a snug 33mm or a loose 34mm? Which should I get?

    TIA

If you haven't converted it yet 1.3125 in. equals 33.3375 mm. If the Dansco holes are pliable you might could use the 33 mm, but .3375 mm is a bit more of a press fit then I would care to use. I would suggest use the 34 mm and shim the coin edge with paper, trimming the excess once the coin is secure.

Good luck and Keep on Collecting!

    Here's an alternative

Here's another approach. I assumed that the bronze medals are going to be very prone to toning, so I wanted to put them into AirTite capsules. The only size that fits the First Spouse bronze medals is the 33 mm ring-type.

These capsules fit nicely into Dansco pages with 50mm openings.

Nice alternative 'dreamer'. Arggh. Didn't even think of that option. It looks really nice. Let me ask you. Were the 33mm rings tight? Did you have to alter them in anyway? I did do the calculations but you know how some manufacturers are, sometimes measurements are a little "off".

What are the chances that Dansco will come out with a First Spouse Medallion Album? Or are we DIY'ers going to end up modding blank albums. I'd hate to expend all of that energy only to have them put one out. I don't believe they have a website of any kind. I contacted Whitman back in January and they said they were thinking about putting out a First Spouse Album.

My plan was to model the existing Presidential Dansco albums with the descriptive/pictorial seperation sheets and design custom decals for the names and dates. I know... I know... a lot of work for US Mint commeratives... but that's just me.

The 33 AirTites are the size they promote for the First Spouse bronze medals. It's a snug fit, but the rings are made of foam, so they are flexible to fit easily. Not need to modify them. I'd prefer direct-fit Airtites, but neither 33 or 34 mm fit properly.

As for whether Dansco will make albums for the bronze medals, I kind of doubt it based on the fact that they haven't made albums yet for any kind of commemorative coins as far as I know. I'm collecting 5 of each bronze medal. I'm going to make one album like the one I showed in the picture so I have one to look at. I'll wait, if necessary, to the end of the series to see what other options they come up with.

Interesting development, Whitman Publications just released an album exclusively for the First Spouse Bronze Medals. Wonder if Dansco will follow suit?

Just put my bronzes into my blank album.....34 mm is a litle loose but it is a tight thickness fit so there is no sliding. ........be careful sliding the sleeves back over the medals!
