Funny story, perhaps. I was detecting a beach on LI, and found- are ya ready? 5 or 6 dollar coins in a pile. I was really psyched, since it had never happened before -- to me. I met a guy [detectorist] and told him about it. Ah, that's nothing, last week I found 20 of them. sorry, but-- yeah right. 10, is a real wow, but 20?
If fuel prices weren't so high it would have been very good. Had several spills, several surface finds, 2 in parking lots. The ring is probably stainless. The clasp on the chain says 10K. IDK if the chain is real but the clasp might be. That claw piece in the center also is stamped 10K on the retractable part on the other side. Can't find a spot in the new house to take a good photo.
First I pull an old silver half dollar 1958-D, and then later a silver ring. The other ring I think is stainless. I usually don't even keep keys. I got home and this one is 925 silver, also from the first spot. Only used 3/4 of a gallon. 7 shots at a W, 0-7.
I didnt get a great signal and I have pulled so many keys I usually leave them on a bench or on the playground. IDK why I kept this one. And then There's a nice 925 stamp (JWBR) on one side of the teeth. Looking up the mark now. JWBR is an Indian jewelry company. Can't find out which one. 4.3 grams.
Treashunt 5 or 6 dollar coins in a pile is awesome. The most I found in a "spill" under some swings was 3. I had some other hunts where I pulled 3 but that was the total. While 3 is the most I have ever pulled in a hunt, some of them had some other treasures. 3 dollar coins and a half, 3 dollar coins a half, a silver ring and a silver bracelet, 3 dollar coins and a half. The one when I found the spill, I had 2 other hits and I thought I was getting another, but it was 2 quarters.
I decided I wasn't going to go. And then when I woke up at the last second, I said WTH. It wasn't going well and then I pulled a nice silver and onyx ring near the end.
Hello Cliff. A homemade jig mounted on a small polish motor & large can of Semichrome™ helped with the 109 nozzles. J.T.
Quick work and an ingenious way to make use of them. I love metal detecting BTW. Been doing it in Fl for only 4 years out of 51 here. I talked myself out of it before then by saying all the Spanish plata had already been found. (Insert head slap here!)
Hello Cliff, With as many weather disturbances you get in Fl (More than we get in Galveston) I'd expect there might be good hunting directly afterwards. J.T.
Do/did you live near a factory that made nozzles? That is one of a heck of a lot of nozzles to find by anyone regardless of how long they have been detecting.
Thanks, JT and yes that is the best time to hunt. We get lots of disappointed visitors after a storm. Unfortunately, the local PD closes public access to the beaches to ostensibly "protect" the public and survey any damage. I know a treasure dealer who has gotten Spanish platta coins from an officer who detected them from those same beaches while they were closed. I guess he had to do something while patrolling the deserted beach?
