Hello everyone, I did a 5 hour metal detecting trip yesterday at Fort Greene Park Brooklyn. No silver finds. That's how it goes sometimes I detected tons of coins with a 1880's Indian Head Cent being the best find. 28 Wheat Cents 3 Canada Cents Half of a compact or pendant - Brass Everything
A fun filled 5 hours. And always on tenterhooks when your machine signals something else. A nice haul of finds, well done.
Looks like you had some serious fun. Yesterday was a nice day but nothing but rain today. Gladstone see you are still cleaning those NYC parks.
It looks like you had fun anyway! I have metal detected a lot and have never found silver. I have found maybe a dozen wheat cents, two Indian head pennies and a worn smooth, holed large cent. Add a few five-gallon buckets of rusty metal and you have the equivalent of 50+ hours work shown.
Nice haul, your in the right time zone for silver...move over about 6 feet from where the wheats came from.
I did. It was a huge area in the park where the soil was turned for grass reseeding. I was swinging there for 3 hours and I only found most of the wheats. The 1882 Cent was found deep under a root of a stump on the other side of the park.
A metal detector friend once went to an older park where they were removing a section of grass for a kids swing play area. Picture a 40' x 40' x 18" cut out section with the dirt piled on the side. He worked for the city street department and got access to the Closed area for two days. He found enough change to fill a gallon jar. Nothing later than 1956... 40 percent of the change was silver dimes and war nickels. 60 percent wheat cents and non/silver nickels. Nothing larger than a dime, a couple rings and very little trash. After it was done he said he really didn't enjoy the hunt...beep,beep,beep every few inches and he would have had an easier time raking and sifting the whole area.
