We typically don't have great metal objects as old as that, but we do have younger metal objects that are just as cool.
I keep telling myself I'm going to get a metal detector, yet so far the wherewithal escapes me.
It's hard to justify the money it takes to get a really good one, when you know you will probably never recover it's cost by using it, although the hobby fascinates me (or is it the thought of finding long lost treasure that I find fascinating?)

We has an eccentric Georgian chap amongst us whom has traipsed o'er ta jolly olde England with his machine and e'en found some treasures to boot. Perhaps @lordmarcovan will fill us in on his adventures thence.

‘Twas a blast. My finds were the least impressive of anyone’s in our group, but it was the adventure of a lifetime for me.

Which isn’t to say it was always fun. There were difficult and uncomfortable moments, and my detector died on me. But it was totally worth the trip.

I heard someone in my group dug a gold Celtic stater the day after I left, on a site I had visited with them only a few days previously. Just missed it!

Member of our local coin club travels to England for a metal detector hunt/holiday once or twice a year. He's found a few interesting thing but nothing spectacular.
