Happy Mother's day to all those wonderful Moms out there. A special note to that great digger @paddyman98, Bah-Hum-Bug.
Curiously, the double ring is an indicator of a Confederate bullet. Wonder if it is or how it got there.
Welcome to New York, where the girls are pretty, the city (NY) is pretty, and the pollution in the ground and water is off the charts.....
That's for the .58 caliber minie balls. This looks like a much smaller solid bullet, not a hollow base minie.
It was about 6 inches deep. In a park in Manhattan. I saw pictures of the .58 on the web. Mine is truly solid. So now the question is.. What solid bullet was made with 2 rings?
I saw this - lead bullet with two rings - Bing images and this - Civil War Bullet ID Chart – Antiques Detectors
Diameter measurement will tell the caliber, but it appears to be a lead pistol or revolver bullet. Maybe a .32 or .38 bullet, this would be from a metallic cartridge, later than the Civil War.
@paddyman98 . If you look at my MD display, you'll see one I found that's a 3 ringer Civil War bullet, 58 cal. That's what I was told anyways. There's some other items that I've found over the years that you can use as a reference. I've ID'ed most of them. All 1700's to late 1800's.
Yes. 3 rings were Union rounds. Occasionally two collided bullets are found. One with 2 rings and the other with 3. Imagine the odds!
