Hello and welcome to my 39,000 posts celebration thread! I started Metal Detecting 13 years ago. My first metal detector was a Whites Classic 5ID. That detector no longer works properly since the display has conked out I was so excited when I started finding my first US Coins and would separate the different denominations. In my first year of detecting I put all the Lincoln Cents in zip bags by different decades thinking that one day I would go through them and check for mint errors and varieties. I forgot that I had these Cents which I stored in an old plastic Plano tackle box. I recently found it hidden away in a closet in my son's room. Yesterday I started searching and went through about 400 Cents. I found 4 interesting issues and 4 PMD Cents that are Etsy worthy.. .. JK! 1960 Incomplete Planchet (Minor Curved Clip) Die Crack - from 12:00 to 3:00 (pre-cud?) 2 Floating Roofs - Over-polished Dies I know some don't think of these as errors but still fun to find for me PMD Cents Sneezing Lincoln - Reeded Edge Hit Snips Indentation - Both Sides Blunt Force Dents - BB gun practice? Long Chin Lincoln - Circulation Hit Smooshines Next weekend I will post new finds. This Plano box is currently not at home and it's a bit too much to take it home with me.
Congratulations. Looking forward to reading the next 11,000 posts as you make your way to 50,000. Again, congratulations.
39,000! Nice to reach a goal. Congratulations. I bet finding that box of old metal detecting cents was like opening a Christmas gift on Christmas morning for a kid. We all, hopefully, still have that "kid" inside of us and the joy something like this can bring is immeasurable. Have fun going through the rest of them.
Yes! I was surprised when I found it. It was funny how I separated each Cent by decade. My idea was to do that for every find.. But.. I found thousands of more cents over the years but it would of been impossible to store them all.. After the first several years I just took them to a Coinstar kiosk.
