take a look at all this messed up money! its sad to see all of the old style billd that got written on.
awwww...made me think of "wheres willy" writing on some of the bills here. If you haven't heard of Willy.....the bill has whereswilly.com written on it. You go to the site, type in the serial # and it will tell you where the bill has been, travelled etc.
It's unfortunate. They are no longer in their original condition which most collectors would love to have them.
I love that site and it's collection. The bills affected were worth face value when brand new, and only still exist now because someone wrote on them and that led someone else to dave them. They would have no value in circulated condition anyway, so what's wrong with the decoration? Collectors often make the mistake of assuming that the bill/coin would be collectable if only it wasn't damaged in this way. But, if it had been left alone and just circulated, it would be well worn or retired by now.
I would like to point out that alot of those scans were first made in about 1999-2000 so that is why there are so many old style bills on the site. Back then old style fives and tens were still being made so obviously these older designs were nothing out of the ordinary. The author of the site has done alot of updating since I last visited it too so thanks for pointing it out Coinlover.
if you guys don't know already, i am a big fan of wheresgeorge. i even have 3 stamps. one says currency tracking project, the other one says track this bill at www.wheresgeorge.com, and the other one says see where i've been! track where i go next! www.wheresgeorge.com. i stamp every bill i get exept for * notes and older pre 1995 notes. i don't stamp old styles either. i've entered around 350 bills, and currently have about 14 people enter them back. it a really neat hobby. some people think its illegal, but as long as you dont mark over the secirity features like the serial number, series, watermark, or strip, it is perfectly legal. i always mark the bills on the margins, so i don't have anything to worry about. when i spend these bills, i have some people look at the stamps, and other people that don't even look. i've haven't gotton any negitive comments, yet, but i know i will. well, if anyone is looking for a neat hobby, check this site out!:kewl:
I have some on there, but haven't used it in over a year and I guess my account got deleted. But oh well. Good thing there isn't any star notes or silver certs. there. Phoenix
they don't delete accounts, so i think your bills are safe. did you stamp or write in pen on the bills? you need to got back there and see if you have any hits on those bills! that would suck if there was a star silver certificate that got wrotten on!
