hey, thanks for this post. being a beginner myself this type of information is much appreciated. ive been buying more and more coins looking at not only raw but graded as well some in the buckets and some new and sometimes i find some in the buckets that look good enough to be given a good decent grade but i think i will post them here first to see what you guys think first.
I was having trouble on giving a grade to my peace dollars for example I had a 1924 that I compared to a graded ms 65 of mine and I was sure that it was going to grade at least a 65 but I swear it looked better thinking 66 or better to my embarrassment it graded an Au 55 like I said I had and still have a lot to learn.I also had 2 counterfit gold dollars that I bought on ebay looked at them on my microscope and they looked genuine but they wasnt
Just wanted to share my experience if your a beginner at collecting and you have coins that you want to send off for grading take it from me and my mistakes if your not completely sure about your coin or coins that your sending in for grading take them to an authorized dealer and see if they will look at them for you first before sending them in.It would have saved me hundreds of $ had I done this and now its the only way I do it.And by talking to the dealers I have learned so much about the grading process and now I don't get near as many just genuine grades.Hope this helps for you beginning collectors.
Experienced eyes can help quite a bit. Do you mind sharing what your previous submissions were before you reached out for help?
Funny thread the way it is broke up like this but on a serious note, i 100% aggre with the real OP about knowing what you are sending in before you do. If you dont, you will never get your money back out of the coins you submit. Thanks for the thread
