    1731& 1/2 Ecu (AIX mint). (These are adjustment marks on it)

    Nice. So many French coins have heavy adjustment marks. I like them.

    It looks like the marks have been made by a rasp, but more likely a chisel.
    I have guessed that it was done at the mint to reduce the weight of the coin, as these big ecu coins were often restamped on earlier heavier issues. I've not read anything about this though.
