Mercury dimes

    I have been reading alot of coin world lately,and was reading about the mercury dimes double dies,,while checking my 2 i noticed 1 on the 1942 seems to be right up against the 9,not so on the 1945,,myquestion is,was the 1 against the 9 a design or a rare error,,if i can get aquaility photo,which hasnt been my luck lately i'll attach it,,any info from you mercury collectors? thanks

    As I'm sure you know Wingnut, The 42 is the key date error in the Mercury series. The 2 over 1 is the common error (not that the coin is common) I don't really know about the 1 & 9 being close together as being an error. But if I were you I'd have a close look at the 4 & 2.

    If the date on your Merc looks like this one then it is a normal dime.

    Thanks for your help,,i was aware of the 2 over 1error,,i wish i could get a close up pic of mine,,i have a friend who collects mercury dimes and he said he will check mine out,,ill let you know whatever he finds,,,thanks again
