What does it mean when people say the bands are split on a mercury dime? Thanks.

On the reverse of the coin there is what is looks like an axe. The handle of the axe is made of a bundle of sticks. Holding the bundle together are 3 groups of bands. On the top there are 3 - with 2 lines seperating them. In the middle there are 2 - with one line. And at the bottom are 2 more with one line.

It is these bands and the lines between them which must be able to be seen clearly & distinctly for the coin to be classified as FB or Full Bands.

You can see a pic of one here - FB Merc
