I have an opportunity to purchase a 1916D Mercury dime. It's in an AG2-AG3 condition at best. Under magnification, The very top of the D is evident. Any ideas as to how much this coin is valued at?. Of course, it's the only one I'm missing.
    Thanks

    Grey sheet lists a AG2 1916D for $665 retail, $510 wholesale.

Exactly why I posted Grey Sheet pricing. Both NGC and PCGS have what is usually unrealistic prices posted. But if you tale the time to scroll you will find the most recent winning auction prices that are reflective of current market prices.

It should be around $650 for an AG-3 grade that’s certified.

If it's not in TPG plastic, PCGS, NGC or ANACS, I would pass
on buying this highly counterfeited coin. This coin should
    NEVER be bought raw.

The reason that this coin is so attractive, even though only the top half of the
" D " is visible, is that it has been in a folder which hasn't been opened since the early eighties. Think it's still too much of a risk?

@Jimmyv I stand by my statement. Before the TPG 's came on the scene at most shows most 16-D's were counterfeit.

It’s still a big risk, yes. Only buy it if you’ve got a return privilege long enough to allow you to send it off for certification.

That's always the story, isn't it?
When I was into vintage mopeds, the story was always "it ran last year when I put it into storage for the winter".
