Hey I'm kinda new to collecting. I found this real shiny 1942 mercury dime that looked a lot different than the rest of the lot. Is this dime a proof? If so, with the shape it's in, what can i expect in value? Also what are some major dates, errors, mints etc. to look for with the mercury dime? Thanks in advance for any help.

    not a proof, just polished.

also, you really have to take closer pictures.

    Try using a macro lens

Look for the 1916-D and the 1942 2 over 1. Theres plenty more keys to look for but those are the ones that come straight to my mind. To check for the 1942 2 over 1. look at the 2 and see if theres a number one behind it.

the '21s are good to find, any silver that year. a lot of the mint's efforts went into producing a bazillion silver dollars. also get yourself a redbook, it's the first thing any collector should have.

I'll second that one. A lot of good information in the Redbook. Just avoid making purchases using to the Redbook's prices.
