    image.jpg Hello everyone
I just received this mercury dime that I purchased from eBay. I didn't notice this until it arrived this morning the obverse of this dime has a crack that runs from rim to rim threw the middle of libertys head. Is this a die crack ? Does this increase the value any?? I know the photo isn't great but I would appreciate any opinions on this coin.

Looks like a die crack. As for any premium...not in my opinion.

You would need to post a much better picture. One that could be enlarged. But I'm guessing no that is not a Die Crack. Is it raised? If it is Incuse the it could be a bad ugly scratch. Seen a lot of those posted recently.

Also it's to thin to be a Die Crack. Remember the Crack is on the Die itself not the Planchet. So the metal would fill the space on the Die where the Crack occurs.

I can try and get a better photo. I really don't believe it's a scratch as it's in a anacs ms63 FSB slab.

usually they mention the die cracks.

But, if a scratch, too big to be missed

Looking at it under a 10x loop it seems that it's a thin raised crack .

The Ebay seller didn't mention on their listing a Die Crack at all? How could the seller and ANACS both miss it?

Because it makes no difference as to value. It's a normal part of die life.

It was listed as a 1940s mercury no mention of a die crack on the slab or from the seller. I'm trying to get another photo. All I have is the camera on my phone and it's though to get the crack to even show up. Here's a photo of the slab . image.jpg

    If it's raised , then chances are it's a die crack .
