Here is a 1916 D that came out of a collection I bought. What do you think of it? Real or fake? Thanks!
Solid 16-D. I own a contemporary very well done 16-D counterfeit and I see none of the signs of an added mintmark. Usually the counterfeiters will select better grade 16’s to add the phony mintmark to. That one looks solid to me.
It looks OK to me at a cursory glance, but I'll be the first to admit I am not really well-versed in the diagnostics of the fakes (mintmark shape, etc.) Get that puppy slabbed, ASAP!
Looks real to me. Here are some values......1916 D Mercury Silver Dime Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info
I'm not seeing the triangular hole in the D that I expect - but I've also failed to see it in genuine specimens, so no opinion from me.
