So this is a gold Menander I indoGreek coin. Wondering if anyone can tell me if it’s real? I notice nice metal flow lines suggesting proper ancient heating and hammering technique, and proper overall patina. Thanks in advance.
This is far outside my knowledge, but the style is so crude that I very much doubt it is ancient. You can compare it against silver Menander drachms or gold staters to see the contrast in style. The weight also rings alarm bells. Gold Menander staters should weigh about 8.6 g. This coin weighs 12.08 g? I think it's most likely to be just a fantasy production.
Style is wrong, fabric is wrong, weight is wrong (stater should be 8.6g), type is wrong. Defintely a fake. Of his staters only 13 or so are known, and they are of a completely different type and style.
