I have this medaljon from Belgium, I found with My metal detector . I have read myself on the internet that it should be from 1816. I think it is made of silver. It is neither a year or a silver stamp on it.
The front says: Guilelmus 1 Belgarum Rex and Braemt fecit under the portray.

The reverse reads: Palma Academ. Regil Scient. One Liter. Brussels. Ex Largit. Princ.

I have only found a place on the Internet where this medal is mentioned. It is a book from 1848: ReVu
    DE LA NUMISMATIQUE
    Belge,
PUBLIEE SOUS LES auspices DE LA SOCIETE NUMISMATIQUE
Par MM. R. CHALON, C. Piot ET C.-P. SERRURE.
    TOME IV.
The book is E-book and can be viewed at the following URL: http://www.numisbel.be/1848_5.pdf

I think it is pretty rare. Hope somebody can tell me whether it is worth anything?

    Sincerely, Jesper

Welcome bountyhunter!! Medals are difficult but there are a few collectors on here just different medals than that one I think. That is a beauty for sure!! The only idea I can give to you is to look on this link and email the dude if you have any questions. :D Also my guess is there are more medal resources I just don't know where they are. Maybe someone else will chime in here.

BTW: How deep in the ground was it and what do you think saved it from damage?

    Hi fretboard

7" in the ground. A couple of other damaged coins lay on top of the medallion when I dug up. So there was some rust on the front of it. I have cleaned most of it, but still a little back.

Thx for the reply and the link. I will try to e-mail him :smile

You may want to go to ebay and run the name into their seller search box to see if any were sold and for how much. The name below the bust should give you alot of info.
