I noticed this when I was cropping some images. I assume it's machine/hub doubling unless someone can tell me otherwise.
To clear up an obvious misconception, machine doubling is not hub doubling. To say machine/hub doubling indicates confusion about the terms. Hub doubling is actually a descriptive term used to describe doubling caused during the hubbing process which in turn is what strikes coins that are doubled dies. Machine doubling is not hub doubling. Machine doubling happens as the coin is struck. Hub Doubling=Doubled Die=Keeper Machine Doubling=Common Minting issue=Clunker (unless you love coins that have little or no collector value, which of course is OK as long as you understand the difference) Oh...your coin shows machine doubling.
I clear up any possible confuzzlement by using terms like 'Die Vibration Doubling' (DVD) or just VD. Thank you.
A vibration is not just one movement, it is a series of movements or an oscillation. A single machine doubling would very rarely have such movement, although it would be more likely in coins from single squeezed dies I suspect. Your term has no association with MDD, and increases confusion on the subject, evidently just so the abbreviations can be used. IMO.
Wow easy with the big words ok cuss now I'm confused OMG please enough with the acronym and what's with the intellectual war's guy please help if u are to help but please for the sake of us new enthusiasts be easy stop with the intimidation cuss that just sounds so arrogant, Non the less we do appreciate the helpful information as well as your humility. I see that this was your first post, as a new member welcome to CT. These are very common acronyms on every coin chat room there is. Stick around for a while and you will understand what every one of them means. Some change is great, except on coin boards where this type of terminology, and talk is nessesary. Hang in there you will learn.
