MD in different directions?

I know this isn't an error but I want the error folks to answer the question so I put it here... sorry about that. I have a 2000-P Maryland Quarter that has MD on the left and right side that both go in opposite directions (E-W). There's also some going N-S on the reverse. How does MD go in three different directions on a coin? Is it just the way it rattles between the dies? Thanks for looking.

Also Die Deterioration Doubling (DDD) can be a possibility!

No! It's the way the die rattles.

Error Ref is my Gospel for these things, even when I disagree with Mike. He's usually right even then, anyways. :p
