It may be larger than normal because it is a fake.
And most likely not even a hint of gold.

Where did you get it? Did you buy it - for how much and from where ?

It doesn't look real to me either. Looks like it's flat and no high relief.

here's more information, but don't just take a cursory look. You have to inspect the two images (and others) in detail to understand the distinct difference. And "close" is only in horseshoes, not coins. ==> https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/gold-20-double-eagle/saint-gaudens/

I’ve had it tested it’s 22 karat gold

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Well, if you say it has been tested as real gold then I'll have to believe you. It looks more like brass to me.

However, that is not a real coin - it is a poorly made counterfeit. It looks like the sort of thing you'd get in a museum souvenir shop.

I don't know how you had it tested, but if there is any gold there it is probably a tiny thin layer plated over a lead core.

    FAKE!

A disgrace to the original, authentic design. I hope to God I don't see this crap on Ebay tonight.

What are you stumped about, and what is it you want to know?

it was tested for purity and density at a jewelry store. They offered me 1800 for the gold as scrap gold but I wanted to check into it first

If it's real it's worth more than that.
But it would have to be authenticated.
But several experts have weighed in on how it looks already.
But considering there's probably an emotional attachment. Do you know where your grandpa got it ?

but if it's fake the $1800 is far more than it's worth.

I didn't think it was from my first post. design doesn't match. Lady Liberty looks weird. it looks flat with no relief, rim/date, etc. Just trying to give more info to educate some.

And cue the exit of the original poster, never ever to return the forum...

I was trying to get insight on if it was a real coin before I sold it as scrap gold. Even if it’s a fake coin it’s real gold the pictures don’t really do it any justice
