I found this in change a few months ago and still can find out what it is...any ideas?? Its a 1984-D Cent.... Speedy
First guess would be high strike pressure "tore" the copper plating along the edge of the mark and metal flow moved it out. I see this often with the copper plated zinc lincolns. I'd also through in a bit of worn die doubling too.
I have some 05 buffalo nickles that have this around the date. Of course the coloring is reversed but basically rhe same cause.
Repunched Mint Mark - It occurs when the dies used to create the coin are marked with a mint mark which is of two or more types or two or more locations. There are numrous different classifications so I suggest going to CONECA's web site at http://www.conecaonline.org/ Look around. In one of the links on the site there is a master listing of terminology.
