I just got this rather pretty Maximinus II Daia follis (GENIO IMPERATORIS, Alexandria Mint) in a lot of bronze stuff the other day. The photos were iffy and it wasn't really why I bid on the lot, but in hand I found that it is a very handsome coin. And surprisingly (to me) heavy: 7.71 grams. Anyway, being rather new to LRB, it took me a while to narrow it down, but I think it is RIC 107 (?). My problem is that I cannot find the exact RIC number (out of the many variations) that matches mine. I did find a match in an old Vcoin listing, but the seller just stuck to "RIC 107" and didn't go into details. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/in..._standing_alexandria_mint/430031/Default.aspx This is Alexandria Mint, Crescent over K (left) and A over P (right). I wanted to mention how helpful the post on Maximinus's Alexandria folles by maridvnvm was in my researches. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/maximinus-ii-daia-alexandria-folles.297885/
Holy moley that is complicated - the Tetrarchy era had so much going on politically and numismatically. Thank you for copying that out - I believe that covers it. RIC 124.
Thank you Victor. Yes, that's the one: RIC VI Alexandria 139b. It is in Wildwinds, but a gamma rather than an alpha top right (but that is just the officinal mark, I believe). That threw me off, but Roman Collector's post showed how the catalogue handles this. I really need to get RIC! Thanks everybody for your help.
I undoubtedly am in the minority when I state my opinion that people should either 'get' RIC or 'get over' RIC or any other reference. I don't care how handy copied digests may be, IF you are going to use the book, buy it. It iss very hard to follow all the details needed to be certain of the number working from digests.
