I veered off the fel temp path a little, and picked this up for cheap. I believe the attribution is correct. Maxentius AE Reduced Follis, MAXENTIVS P F AVG, laureate head right / CONSERV VRB SVAE, Roma in hexstyle temple with orb and sceptre, PT below. RIC 91
Neat! Maxentius's Roma-in-a-temple coins can be really pleasing snack-priced pickups. One with a busier temple... Roma is flat, but for me the temple pediment is where the money is on this coin.
Coins with short flan mintmark loss can often be IDed by finding matching pediments. I agree with your PT reading. My favorite 'Maxentius' temple issue is this follis he issued during the short time he was trying to get along with a new kid on the scene, Constantine later to be Greater. Had he issued the coin with AVG in place of CAES, history might have been spared the whole Milvian Bridge affair and been changed in so many ways we can only try to imagine. In politics, you pick your friends and you pick your enemies. As it turned out, Constantine made a bad enemy.
OMG... You DIVERGED! Nice pick up Randy! RI Maxentius 306-312 CE AE Folles Dioscuri holding their horses She-Wolf
Nice find, Randy. He is also an emperor that isn't posted often here compared to Roachy Gordy or various others. Maxentius (306 - 312 A.D.) Æ Follis O: IMP C MAXENTIVS P F AVG, laureate bust right. R: VICTORIA AETERNA AVG N, Victory advancing left with wreath & palm. In ex. MOSTT 6.70g Ostia mint RIC 54
Nice bit of veering off the path! Maxentius (Aquileia) and son Romulus (Ostia). Romulus's tomb is still visible along the Appian way.
Cool non-FTR coin RG! I just purchased a Maxentius temple coin a couple days ago. Not in my hands yet so I can't post yet...
