maryland quarter copper

    i have a maryland quarter and both sides have a copper tone to it..it doesnt cover the whole coin but most of it has this color. i will try to get a pic soon but i thought i would just put it out there. also i have a question. i prob sound like an idiot asking this but i am new to this coin collecting and dont have too much knowledge yet. what does clad mean?

    I was told that there is no such thing as a someone new with a stupid question, because there was a point where I had no idea what clad was.

    A clad coin is one made of layers of metal. Examples include our modern Dimes, Quarters, Half Dollars, and One Dollars that have centers of copper and outer layers of a copper-nickel alloy.

    If you have any coin vocabulary-related questions, you can try this coin dictionary. Or, if it doesn't help, just do a Google search.

    Anyway, back to your coin, if it's toned, than it dosen't effect the value much, but, if it is missing the clad layer, you may be able to get a bit of money for that, depending on condition.
