Doubled die obverse 1867 2 cent pieces used to bring high prices. I once had a corroded AU details one sell for over $500 on eBay. But it seems like more are showing up lately on the market. I couldn't resist this one on eBay, however, listed as a Buy-it-Now for $72. It's cleaned, but still has a decent look. Pretty neat doubling! Cell phone pics.

So was this purchased as the variety, and used as an example of declining prices, or was it a pick?

It was listed with the variety. Guy knew what he had. It just made me wonder if I'm still living in the old days of higher prices on these or if he knows the current market better than me! I always have enjoyed the doubling on this coin.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I can't help with present-day demand or values, but can state with confidence that five or more years ago you could have pulled a fairly solid return off of this one, especially if darkened up some. I guess we're in somewhat of the same boat in regards to knowing the present market. ;)
