Mark Twain silver coins go on sale February 1st. Are you buying? TC http://catalog.usmint.gov/mark-twain-commemorative-silver-coin/
Yup, I'll get a few. I love the reverse with his characters jumping off the pages. Wasn't a big fan of the tiny gold though
Found that the design on the gold was very nice once seen at its proper size. When blown up, I can see where the water would not look right.
I will probably get a silver proof though I don't generally collect modern coins. I like the design. I think the Mint missed the mark with the gold design.
I like the portrait and reverse of the gold, but the gold is too small and too expensive. The silver is a little busy, but, familiar to those who have actually read the books. The gold face shows his intensity and the riverboat shows his life:
Yes, that is true I thought it was revealing when in Huck they got a "silver" coin, and then Wondered if it was real or fake?

Sadly, yes. Some day, I'll grow a brain and realize that if I quit paying the US Mints outrageous premiums for coins which will retail for $30 on a good day, I might be able to save some money. Have they produced ANYTHING on the Silver Commemorative side which goes for more than issue price in the past 10 years?
Before that, the Buffaloes. I really like the gold ones too. I may have to go with both proof and unc. with them. Usually, I only score an unc., but this year the proofs look terrific. I might be eating rice and beans for the next few months, and, (fair warning) don't get down wind from me.........
Holy Mackerel! I forgot that these went on sale today. Just finished ordering and I added a gold unc. to the order. I'll get the proof down the road. Heck, they're on back order anyway.............
