Bills have been introduced in both Congress and the Senate to honor Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) with a pair of commemorative coins.

Lawmakers seek to honor Mark Twain

The article does not mention what year the proposed commemorative coins would be issued. I don't see any Mark Twain anniversaries coming up any time soon. The centennial of his death was last year. The bicentennial of his birth is 24 years away. The sesquicentennial (150-year anniversary) of the release of Tom Sawyer is still 15 years away.

I'm picky when it comes to buying commemorative coins but this would be one I'd likely pick up for sure.

I like the idea as well, but I often get commemorative coins.

One of my all time favorites. I spent a lot of time as a youth with my nose in his books.
My suggestion for the commem would be, on one side, Huck and Jim floating down the Mississippi on their raft . For the other maybe one of his quotes like, "let us so live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry".

+1 on this. i love that idea. i'd put Huck and Jim on the raft on the reverse, Mark Twain on the obverse, like you said. and on the edge, like where reeding is on a quarter, put a quote.

Mark Twain would be an excellent subject for a commemorative coin.
