Got one today at the coin store... Paid $11.....
No camera currently, but I spot no designating marks of a forgery... not that I'm a pro but it has no "FAKE" mark on it. What are the odds it's real, and what might it be worth?

I like it, and I know my girlfriend (the recipient) will like it too, fake or not :)

Oh, it's real. Just a re-strike and with silver relativ3ely high now you made out pretty good. I've got one as well and it's a re-strike too. They all bear the same date 1780.

    Good Deal

The 1780X date thalers have been produced in a number of places, for a number of years. All of those odd characters around the actual rim (on the rim itself, not the obverse or reverse) are a key to the actual place minted and date. If you do a search on google, you can find sites that will show how those characters tell you the specifics. The majority of these were minted in the last 40 years or so, as I recall, though some are several decades earlier, in terms of the common ones that you can buy for $10 or so. Just do a touch of research and you'll find out where yours came from and when.

    >>Click here<< to read one of many threads about the Maria Therese restrikes which have been posted in the past. :)

There is a link in one of the posts to the detailed information about identifying them which forum member JD White has placed on his website.

I just saw the great post in the world and ancient coin forum with the translation tables! Take a look there, and you will find out exactly where your coin was minted and when!
