I picked up this Maria Theresa Silver Thaler at a price I was happy with.
The coin has certainly been cleaned, but I wanted an example for my collection, not for any future investment. When I tried to research the coin to try and determine actual origin and date of mintage, I was overwhealmed. As close as I can get is probably Vienna sometime after 1975. Is there anyone out there who is familar with these beauties who can help pinpoint origin? Thanks.

Actually I did. I found the site on my own while doing research. I had no idea there were so many varities. My guess it's a H62 or H61a. Might have to leave it at that. I still think it's a beautiful coin, restrike or otherwise.

Same places you get any other coin - by looking for them. Just get one dated 1779 or earlier.

I bought four of them in 1965 from the Vienna Mint, along with some Austrian proof sets.

    I still have them.

Maria Theresa Thaler is my favourite world silver coin. I still don't own one coz I haven't found any to my liking so far.

The only two I own were, I think, taken from circulation by my grandfather.

Bought this one at an auction a few months ago for $10. Probably a few dollars more than I would have liked to have spent, but I really liked the design. I don't think this qualifies as a Thaler, but it does celebrate the 250th anniversary of Maria Theresia's birth.

Here's mine. It's a Vienna restrike. I got it on ebay for around $18. It's still in the Vienna Mint folder. I'd love to have an original but that's way beyond my resources, lol. :D I searched for this beauty for a LONG time & finally found it.

The problem with the MT restrikes is that they've been making them since 1781 and there are so many that it's almost impossible to tell them apart.
