Picked this up at the SoCal show in a $5 junk bin/box !! My first Maria Theresa Thaler, I do believe it to be a restrike, but none the less, well worth the price paid. Weighs 28.1 grams.
That's a nice one, great pickup for $5. Want to try and attribute it? http://www.jdsworld.net/article/m_theresia_talers.html
LOL, Already have been there, thats where I decided it was a restrike. I am waiting on our resident expert, JD White to find this thread. The man has dedicated his coin career/life to these.
Just returning from a dinner / bar outing with Acanthite. I now know everything there is to know about these. LOL, NOT. Brad's knowledge is amazing.
Yes, I love this coin. Have several and I buy them occasionally on eBay if I find a nice one for a good deal. You can also purchase uncirculated and proof versions directly from the Austrian Mint. The proofs are 25 Euros each (encapsulated), so they are a little expensive, but ... they are pristine.
In 1964 I bought four of them by mail from the Vienna Mint in Austria, in proof condition, along with a couple of Austrian proof sets. I believe that the Thalers cost US $2 then. I still have three of them, I gave the other away as a gift some time ago.
Nice Jack, wish I could be there to soak up some knowledge. This one looks a heck of a lot better then mine do. Although... I was sure this thread was going to be about Canadian large cents...
