Roma's upcoming auction lists a number of coins from the "Mare Nostrum" hoard. I can't find any information about this hoard online and I don't have a paper copy of the catalog which might have some info. Does anyone have any references for this hoard?
Oh my, it was almost melted down for scrap gold! Can you imagine buying a solidus for melt? That couldn’t have been more than a couple dollars each in the 1950’s.
