Who agrees with me that the U.S. Mint should abandoned the normal commemorative coin program with the March of Dimes Commemorative and make a Commemorative Dime to honor the March of Dimes?
I like that idea, with either the roosevelt dime or the merc design on a commemorative dollar planchet....good idea
Two designs: 1. The Silver Dollar with the Roosevelt dime image and a fancy "March of dimes" reverse in proof and uncirculated 2. 10 million "March of Dimes" San Fransisco minted dimes meant for circulation (this is one of the only commemoratives that actually relates to coins in general)
I have always given to United Way, Crusade of Mercy, even the March of Dimes. But I'm not in favor of any private or charitable organization or business of any kind, being supported by the government; even on commemoratives. Be it non profit or otherwise, the politicians will eventually find a way to take advantage of the situation for private or party gain. Once the loophole is found, they will exploit it. I would keep them from the temptation by eliminating their opportunity. IMHO.
I think a dime would be appropriate. While Fdr's support for the MOD is documented and well known, he has been on the dime now for over sixty years. I think that any commerative coin should focus on MOD's non-FDR history.
In that case you would have to get rid of all the modern commemoratives as they have all benefited or supported private/chraritable/non-profit organizations. Question, would the March of dimes have to raise matching funds outside of their regular fund raising to receive the surcharges, or can they just count/use their regular donation funds?
Any organization. And yes, I own no commeroratives that have that reference. However, I don't put military designs under the same consideration, Even though some call the service branches organizations.
