I have posted eight tetradrachms of Elagabalus from Antioch on ebay, all but two in higher grade, and all priced lower than any other similar type for same on VCOINS and EBAY - it is how I price my coins - review listings for similar type and condition, find the lowest priced and price under that. Most dealers use the twice cost rule of thumb for pricing - they price at double their cost. I use the "lower than anyone else" method - and it has resulted in buyers that go back 20 or more years. People criticize ebay for allowing fakes to be sold. It is a big issue for ebay with the result that many sellers have abandoned the site. But it is still an excellent market place for those who cannot afford or choose not to afford the VCOINS yearly fee. And it is still a place where bargains can be found - as in every coin I have up for sale. In addition to the tetradrachms I put up a bunch of coins of the tetrarchy, a worn example of Magnentius, some interesting small silver coins and the Julius Caesar/Octavian provincial which has now been positively identified as a genuine example struck under Domitian at Thassolonika. Great feeling to find out that it is not only genuine but may not be tooled and may simply be a terrific coin.
