Second one is Aquila, Carlo viii di Francia Obv.: KROLVS . D . G . REX . FRR, crowned shield of France Rev.: + AQVILANA CIVITAS Still looking for the first. I'm guessing some relation to Genoa
Thanks for the vote of confidence. The first one has stumped me. The cross is similar to the cross of Jerusalem, but I can't find anything it matches to. The other side looks like the gate symbol for Genoa, but again, I can't match it to anything. and just enough of the legend is there to make it enticing, but just enough is missing to frustrate me...
I don't know very much about medieval coinage or the principal reference works. What is this illustrated page from?
It's from the De Wit Collection auction catalogues by Künker. Not really a reference, but best overall collection of different types from the Middle Ages. By no means complete, but a great start! I've added de Wit numbers to many of my coins just as a universal reference
Just found the first one on Forum - Kingdom of Naples, Charles V You can get a sense of its value based on wear. The second one I would guess around $25-30? I couldn't be sure.
