I find Magnus Maximus to be a very interesting character of history who was at the right (and wrong) place at the right time. For example he was sent to the Danube frontier as a Dux ( Duke) right before a particular battle at Adrianople( which he probably fought in) Then he made his way to Britain where the troops so happened to be ticked off at Gratian , the rest is history. Also it doesn't hurt that he was a fellow Spaniard

Ironically yes. His execution of Priscillian set a bad precedent. Ironically enough he tolerated polytheism and Symmachus and the polytheists supported him. Very interesting .
