I want to get somthing to magnify with because I have bought one yet and figure I ought to so what should I get I want somthing with good magnifcation any suggestions or possibly what you guys have???
I highly recommend the Bocsh & Lomb 5x glass. Quite honestly - it is the recommended power and of good quality - yet affordable. You can find one here - LINK Now before I even post my response - I already know you are going to get responses telling you to buy a stronger ( more powerful ) loupe of 10x - 16x - or even 30x. But trust me - unless you are a variety collector - you DO NOT need it. Over-magnification tends to lead collectors to focus on minute details instead of the coin as a whole. They also make you tend to undergrade. But suit yourself - all are available at the same site.
Agree I agree, I have a 15x loupe and it's way to strong for just looking at coins and it does magnify too much that you see every microscopic flaw. If you are collecting circulated grades you do not need this [ower. Go with the 5x Tony
The 5x GD recommends is great for grading -- it has a larger surface area, so you can look at all of the coin at once. The higher powers (10x and up) are usually smaller, and hence are better for looking at details on parts of a coin (i.e. varieties).
I use a 5x for general appearance, move to the 10 for close ups, and break out the microscope once purchased. For 99% of collectors I recommend the 5x. Do not however skimp on price. Go with a quality loupe. Remember that you are paying good money on your coins, your supplies should have the same value.
